June 25, 2011 - Eliot, ME - Sean Creagan Takes 2nd overall in Aggieman Triathlon!
When we arrived at the start to pick up our packet - the sky was ominous. Then it poured, thundered and streaks of lightning threatened to cancel the Kayak portion of the race. However, after waiting for the sky to clear for a bit - the race was off. Laura and Elise were support crew for Sean this go around. We were in charge of pulling the kayak out of the water, trucking it up a hill and onto the car, driving from Eliot to York and meeting Sean at T2 (which was at the Base of Mt. Agamenticus), collecting the bike (trucking it to the car) and handing off running shoes (hopefully "dry" shoes). The day was a challenge for Sean and family as we were in the rain waiting and Sean was in the rain competing - but it stood as a good testimony for all of Sean's training and current capabilities. Despite pouring rain for the 25+mile bike, Sean put down the 2nd fastest bike leg on the course and quickly grabbed his sneakers and running poles and headed up the Mt. for the remainder of the race a - 3.1 mile accent up Mt. Agamenticus. Sean had a great day of racing despite very challenging conditions! Nice job!! He had a great race!! When's the next one Sean?

May 1, 2011 - Rye, NH - NEET athlete Joyce P. completes in her first 1/2 marathon (Wallis Sands 1/2 Marathon) and has a great time! Way to go Joyce!!! You did great!!

Joyce completed her first 1/2 marathon this past weekend - the Wallis Sands 1/2 Marathon in Rye, NH. She did it in a time of 2:10:37. According to Joyce - "Everything went as planned, I prepped all week with training, rest, hydrating and had carbo's a few days ahead of time. The conditions were ideal and it was a flat easy course. I noticed right away it would be a bit faster than expected even though I was running my own race. At 7 miles I just imagined that I was just stepping out the door for a 6 mile run." "The last 2 miles were tough, but I kept the pace. I passed several people in the last mile and was able to do a sprint at the finish."

"It was a great first experience!" "I was happy to do all the right things and just finish! I had a very fun day at the race." Photo coming soon!

March 5, 2011 - Laura Creagan races in Rangeley Lakes Loppet, Rangeley, Maine places 1st in age group, 5th overall female.

I finished yesterday's 25 KM Skate Rangeley Lakes Loppett Race with a time of 1 hour and 32 mins. In my age category I placed 1st overall. For the women's race, I placed 5th. Overall (men and women) - I placed 19th.

With a 4 am wakeup, convincing my 5 year old to come spectate :), and 3 and half hour drive north into the scenic and remote wilderness of Rangeley - most people and friends last week were calling me crazy for spending my Saturday doing this. However, my reasons run deep and the experience and course are unlike any racing experience in the summer. Skiing is glorious and with each tough long climb - followed a very fast, winding downhill. It was a very nice course!!

Rain on the drive up - changed to freezing drizzle and then snow. The roads were rough and ice heaves were every 1-2 mins. It was a bumpy last 50 mins. north. Upon arrival at the race site, Rangeley Lakes XC Ski Trails - the temps were a bit more chilly (20's) than the forecasted 30's. Winds were gusting and a squall of dry snow arrived prior to the start. The snow was drier than planned - which made my skis run slower than expected. My wax was okay - but given my situation (with family in tow) - I was unable to really adjust onsite.

The start of the race was a mass start - self-seeded with both the 50 km and 25 km (male and female) racers lined up together. With a wide double pole start - down to a narrow trail head - I double poled hard to get ahead and not get crushed or knocked down as the trail narrowed. Just as the trail narrowed, I barely escaped taking a fall and loosing valuable time. A skier from behind had skated right on top of the back of my ski and tripped me up - but I didn't go down (thank goodness). I kept going and managed to stay upright.

The course was beautiful, with loads of nice ups and down. The grooming was pretty great, but quickly rutted into narrow valleys on the turns and to the left and right of the trail (with ski tips sinking in).

Overally I am happy with my time - it had been several years since I raced in this race and it was a great challenge to be a part of one of NENSA's great New England Marathon Series events.

January 17, 2011 - Laura Creagan races in 38th Annual 15 KM Classic "Geschmossal Ski Race" at Bretton Woods, NH

Yesterday was a crisp and clear day with light winds. The top of Mt. Washington was in perfect view (rare). Temperatures at the start of the race hovered around 0 F. Laura raced alongside 69 other racers in the 38th Annual Geschmossal Classic format ski race. It was spectacular day for racing with slow dry ski conditions. Laura placed 3rd in the Masters category with a time of 1 hour and 15 mins. My only regret was putting too much kick wax on - which dragged significantly on the downhills.

This is one of my favorite races on the calendar - with always changing terrain - ups and downs and beautiful scenery throughout the course. Bretton Woods Nordic and the Mt. Washington Omni Hotel did a wonderful job at supporting the racers and offering a wonderful post race feas! Thanks to all.
